Manual for all guitar made at Rostov na Donu factory of musical instruments.

This is Aelita-2 manual from 1989. It refers to all types of electric guitars made at Rostov plant in 1989. Except for giving useful instructions to the amature user (don't plug the guitar into the mains sockets and so on), it provides us with some information about all kinds of the instruments' features and production line of the Rostov plant.

We learn that "Rostov-on-Don factory of keyboard instruments" made the following types of electric guitars:
Tonika
Aelita
Aelita-2
Bas
Bas 2 and
Stella
Since the manual was issued in 1989 - not long before all the guitar production in the former USSR went down - there were no additional models of electric guitars made at Rostov. The manual also does not refer to the Tonika, the first Soviet electric, as a part of the production line. Tonika was produced both at Sverdlovsk and Rostov somewhere in the 60s - 70s and was discontinued.

A couple of words from the poor translator:
Sorry, English is not my mothertongue. I tried to stay as close to the original manual's style as possible but sometimes I was urged to change certain undescribable pieces in order to keep things understandable.

This manual was kindly provided by the one and only -

The cover page shows four types of the guitars made at the factory (front to back): Aelita-2, Aelita, Tonika and Bas. For some reason, Stella is not here. Rostov logo is based on Piano shape - after all, it was a keyboard factory.

The handdrawn number 97040 is the serial number of the Aelita - 2 guitar the manual was attached to.

1. General instructions.

Non-acoustic electric guitar is a picking instrument intended for solo, ensemble and orchestra performing of musical compositions as well as for learning purposes.
Rostov factory of keyboard musical instruments produces the following types of electric guitars: "Aelita" - solo (pic.1); "Bas" - bass (pic.2); "Aelita-2" - solo (pic. 2a); "Stella" - solo (pic.3). Electric guitars "Aelita", "Aelita-2" and "Bas" work in "mono" mode. Electric guitar "Stella", except for mono mode, features two stereophonic modes.
Electric guitars "Aelita", Aelita-2" and "Stella" use universal bridge with sting damper and mechanical tremolo.
The mechanical tremolo is activated with an arm allowing for changing the main guitar's tuning towards lowering or rising of the tonality.
Adjustable screws on the base of the bridge allow achieving the desirable strings' height.
The electric guitar "Stella" features two-channel tone block with independent adjustable tone and volume on each channel, capable of working in two stereophonic modes (Stereo "S" and stereo "T") and in regular mono mode.
In Stereo mode "S" the division of the guitar's sounding spectrum to the two tone block's channels is made by sending the electric signal from the 1st, 2nd and 3d strings to the first channel and the electric signal from the 4th, 5th and 6th strings to the 2nd channel. This division is made with a help of the inductional pickups of the special construction and allows - with a placing of acoustic systems - to feel the spacial (frontal and deep) sound localization.
In Stereo mode "T" the division of the guitar's sounding spectrum to the two tone block's channels is made by sending the electric signal from two pickups into the 1st channel and the electric signal from the two other pickups into the 2nd channel (the signals are picked from all six strings) and allows independent shaping of the sound singal in each of the channels.

(continued from the previous page)
in this mode, in comparison with playing the guitar in "mono" mode, the guitar produces a deeper and more spaceous sound.
The electric guitar "Aelita-2" is made in a new architectural design of the appeal:
1. The body is a new shape with a smaller width and length sizes.
2. The neck construction was changed.
3. The tuners are now placed on both sides of the headstock.
4. Two metal bars are mounted on the headstock in order to allow a more secure attachment of the strings to the nut.
5. The junction of the neck bar tention regulation is placed under the marking shield. (Which means - trussrod access is under the neckplate - cheesygutiars).

4. Tuning

(this is not very interesting so we'll skip tihs part).

5. Working order.

Plugging electric guitar into regular electric socket is forbidden!
For normal reproduction of different sound effects it is adviced to use a mono or stereo amplifier with output power of 6-10 Watt and input sencibility of not worse than 10mV.
Plugging an electric guitar into an amplifier is made with a connecting device.

6. Storage instructions:

Extreme humidity or heat may cause changes in the instrument's shape and its' disassemblation (un-glueing) as well as rusting of the metal parts. In order to preserve the instruments the following rules must be keeped:
1. The guitar must be stored in a hard or soft case in a room with temperature from +12C to +28C. Sharp temporary temperature change is allowed in a range of 10C.
2. If an instrument is stored for a long time (more that a month) it is adviced to loosen the strings.

7. Quality control certificate

Electric guitar Aelita - 2 art. 2451 R number 97040 is suited to RST RSFSR 508-75 and accepted to usage. (OTK - quality control stamp).
Date: 30.01.89

Guarantee

The guitar may be repaired during a 12-month term from the sale date. Guarantee repairment of guitars is made at following addresses:
(a list of repair shops all over the USSR). I'm not translating a list of all the addresses, but the interesting thing about it is that there were no guitar repair shops in USSR - except for the same five factories that made the guitars. So the list mainly includes general electric repair shops - with names like "Metal-Repair", "Home appliances repair" and even "Kind Services combinate".

2. Technical information:

(a table data for Stella, Aelitas and Bas)
Stella: tone range - from E of the big octave to C# of the 3d octave; scale - 650; pickups - 4
